Trauma can leave lasting effects long after the event itself has passed. You may find yourself feeling anxious, disconnected, on edge, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Sometimes trauma shows up in relationships, sleep difficulties, emotional reactions, or a constant sense of being in survival mode.
At Serenity Counseling Group, we provide trauma-informed therapy designed to help you heal—not just cope. Our therapists understand how trauma affects the brain, body, and nervous system, and we use evidence-based approaches to help clients regain a sense of safety, confidence, and control.
You don't have to carry the weight of trauma alone.
Trauma is not defined solely by what happened to you. Trauma is the lasting impact that difficult, overwhelming, or distressing experiences can have on your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of safety.
Trauma can result from:
Many people are surprised to learn that trauma can continue affecting their daily lives years after an event has occurred.
Trauma affects everyone differently, but common symptoms include:
Many people also experience something less obvious but equally important: avoidance.
You may find yourself:
These reactions are not signs of weakness. They are natural attempts to protect yourself from emotional pain.
After a traumatic experience, it makes sense to avoid reminders of what happened.
In the short term, avoidance can help us get through difficult situations. However, when avoidance becomes a long-term coping strategy, it can unintentionally keep trauma symptoms active.
Many people living with trauma spend enormous amounts of energy trying not to think about what happened. Unfortunately, the more we avoid traumatic memories, thoughts, and emotions, the more power they often continue to hold over us.
As a result, symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, nightmares, emotional distress, and disconnection can persist long after the danger has passed.
Healing from trauma is not about forgetting what happened. It's about reducing the hold it has on your life.
At Serenity Counseling Group, we understand that healing from trauma is not a one-size-fits-all process.
Our therapists prioritize:
We believe therapy should help you move toward the life you want—not force you into experiences before you're ready.
Our goal is to help you process what happened, reduce symptoms, and regain a sense of control, connection, and confidence.
Written Exposure Therapy, or WET, is a structured, time-limited intervention that helps individuals process traumatic experiences through guided writing exercises, allowing the brain to gradually integrate and make sense of distressing memories.
WET specifically addresses one of the most common barriers to recovery: avoidance.
Through a carefully guided process, clients have the opportunity to approach memories they may have been working hard to avoid. As avoidance decreases, the brain is able to process the experience more effectively, often leading to meaningful reductions in trauma symptoms.
Unlike some trauma treatments that require extensive retelling of traumatic experiences over many months, WET is a focused approach that is typically completed in five sessions.
Our therapists provide guidance and support throughout the process, helping clients engage in treatment at a pace that feels manageable and productive.

You do not have to continue living in survival mode.
Whether your trauma is recent or decades old, healing is possible. With the right support, you can reduce the impact of trauma, reclaim parts of your life that have been limited by avoidance, and move forward with greater confidence and peace.
Our trauma-trained therapists are here to help.
